My 2010 Reflection

Where do I even start? Let me think back to where we were on December 31st, 2009... Paul and I had made a habit of going and parking somewhere towards downtown to watch the fireworks. Damien was asleep in the backseat peaceful as can be and there we sat, holding hands, talking about how insane 2009 had been for us, marveling at the fact that there was a sleeping child in the backseat of our car, and that he was a perfect blend of the two of us. We talked about our favorite parts of 2009, and what we were looking forward to for 2010. Thinking about it now, I don't remember what we marked as our expected highlight, but let me lay a few out for you as they came to us.

March 28, 2010. Our beautiful little boy turned a year old. Any Mother will agree with me on this one when I say its one of the most bittersweet days there is. Your heart is torn in two emotions: Sadness, and Joy. Your baby is no longer "months" old, he is a full year, and you can't fathom it because it feels like you just felt their warmth on your chest in that delivery room days ago. At the same time its such a wonderful day. They're growing, learning, and thriving...and that is a blessing all by itself. Having a healthy child is nothing to take for granted. We had a big scare a few days before our big guy's first birthday that really opened our eyes to how precious he really is. We had been playing at Grandma and Grandpa's house, and as I was literally a half inch from him and standing rightthere Damien stepped right off the landing of their stairs and somersaulted head over heels down the 10 stairs to the bottom, landing directly on the back of his tiny little head full force. He quickly stopped crying once he was picked up, so we just kept an eye on him. Over the course of the next day he was extremely hard to wake up, lethargic, had vomited a few times and quite the irritable little guy. The medical training in me threw a huge red flag and after talking to his pediatrician we headed into the ER. Two days before my first child's first birthday I stood outside an exam room while his tiny 17lbs was strapped down and slid into this huge enormous CT Scan machine, and sobbed. I remember he just looked so tiny compared to all the huge equipment surrounding him, he got lost in there. It was one of the scariest most stressful nights of our life thus far. No parent wants to see their child injured, or sick, or anything else for that matter. He had a concussion, but within a week or so was back to his normal self. So, two days later, singing Happy Birthday to him, I was nothing but grateful that it turned out ok, and again, marveled at my son :)

May 16, 2009 :) Doesn't need a ton of explanation haha... It was surreal seeing this sight for a second time, and because we TRIED to make it happen. There is something 100% scary and overwhelming about deciding you want to bring a second child into the world. Now we're only 3 weeks from his due date, and we're anxious to meet him. Two boys... I am the luckiest women alive... I've decided its my gift in life to be surrounded by a bunch of handsome men, I lucked out!

I hope that you all are facing a year full of blessings and great memories, a Happy New year to you all!

35 weeks!

Okay so I failed at the whole project 365 thing... I have way too much going on I just didn't have the follow through to keep up with it!

I thought this would be fun though, I didn't take many pictures pregnant with Damien, but I did happen to take one at 35 weeks, so today I decided to throw that same outfit on so we could compare :)

Day 50:31 weeks

31 weeks! We're in the single digits on the weeks-to-go countdown :) I had my normal check up this morning and everything is in "cruise control" as my OB puts it haha. My blood pressure is finally at a good stable point (its been very low this pregnancy), Little Paul is head down and nice and low, his heartbeat was great and my belly is measuring to 31 weeks exactly, so I got an A++ today :) 9 weeks to go... thats only 63 days!

We went to Funtastic yesterday morning, it was so fun! Damien loves this place we've gone a few times with our playgroup. I wish it was closer!

Day 44

We checked out a new park we haven't been to yet, McBean Park. It was neat! Damien loved it and he's never really played in a sandbox before and had fun today in the one at this park. We'll definitely be going back, maybe even tomorrow :)

Gosh he looks like his Daddy in this picture!!!!

Day 43: 30 weeks!

10 weeks to go, 10 weeks to go, 10 weeks to go!!

OOPS!

Okay, so I have to admit, I have been way too tired lately to stay up until after Damien is in bed to do this for the past week, so I'm going to do one mass post of the entire last week, then a post for tonight. I've been in massive cleaning mode all week (nesting, perhaps?) and I have been laying down with Damien to put him to sleep and passing out! So, here goes :)

Day 37:
While I was giving Damien a bath this night, Paul went and fished out all the binkies from under our bed, I think there was like 6 or 7 total haha. We thought it would be funny to put them on the coffee table and see which one Damien picked ( He's totally addicted to them) and he put two in his mouth, so I shoved another one in there!

Day 38: Damien loves to color. On everything. Nuff' said.
Day 39:

Day 40: Just got these in the mail today for Small Paul, love them :)
Day 41: I normally wouldn't post Damien's heiny on the internet because, well I don't need to say it, but it was so funny. I was busy cleaning and didn't even hear him take his diaper off!

Day 42: Stickers!

Day 36: 29 weeks

I'm "full term" (37 weeks) in exactly 8 weeks, thats only 2 months...scary! haha. I think tonight is a good time to talk about some of the difference's Paul and I have noticed with this pregnancy. When we were pregnant with Damien, we were way too caught up in the "things" that came along with having a baby. We wanted the best of everything, every little gadget they had, the entire matching bedding set with coordinating this and that. A lot of this goes to what I learned the first time around. Damien hated being in that expensive "travel system" and preferred to be worn in the wrap or sling (I also preferred this mode of transportation). This time all I want is this baby. Our crib is set up with no mattress still, and I don't.even.care. I'm so much more relaxed and laid back, we're no where near ready for this little man to come but we have the bare essentials and I feel comfortable. I'm also enjoying this pregnancy way more. This is the only time that Small Paul is MINE. I don't have to share him right now, and I love it :) I'm the only one who gets to feel his every little move and twist and turn, the only one who gets to "hold" him, etc. I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow, and then I start going every 2 weeks already, its really going to fly by now!

Day 35

Today is a video instead, because it was too cute :)

Saturday, November 6, 2010

Day 34

Today after breakfast we got out to Joann's Fabric and got some supplies I needed for the machine and some fabric and materials for some Christmas gifts! This was my little "area" all day :)

Day 33

Every other Friday we have playgroup with some great Mommies and kiddos. Its fun because as far as the regulars go and with the exception of one teeny 4 month old baby sister, its all boys 3 and under :) Usually theres 4 big boys, 1 baby brother and 1 baby sister that go almost every time, and then some others we love to death also and wish were able to come all the time! We went to Funtastic play center and its essentially a giant Mcdonalds playplace. Last time we came, Damien was like 10 months old and wasn't quite walking yet so he had more fun this time!

Day 32: Popcorn addict

He's inherited the popcorn addiction gene from his parents...Paul and I can kill a bag of popcorn together in about 4 minutes, its disgusting haha. Damien loves it as a treat though, and I foolishly took him to Target RIGHT at naptime today somehow, so popcorn treat it was :) Him and I polished off a good 3/4 of the bag... oops!

Day 31

I never get a "nice" smile out of him anymore haha its always his crazy face, but Its so cute and so HIM so I love it :)

Day 30

Damien has been interesting at naptime lately haha, I was laying down with him and he thought this was an acceptable way to lay....

Day 29: 28 weeks

Third trimester! Yaaay!

Day 28: Happy Halloween!!!

We had a GREAT day today! Church went well, then there was a potluck for a family at church afterwards and whoooo doesn't love a potluck haha. After Damien got up from nap we headed to the Sacramento Zoo for "Boo at the Zoo!" It will definitely be a tradition for us from here on out, theres so much more to it than just wandering around ringing door bells and getting candy! He can look at the animals, play games, haunted house, there was a tented dance floor for kids, SO FUN! Not to mention its ridiculously cute to see hundreds of small children running around in costumes all in one place :) I have to say, Halloween is so much more fun when you have a kid. Damien had a blast, and he even found a little girl his age in the girl version of his costume and girl's Mom and I both HAD to take a picture, they were too cute! Everyone loved his costume. Then we headed to Grandma & Grandpa's house to see them and hung out for an hour or two to wait for Grandpa to come home. We stopped by Lucille's on the way home to get some dinner and Damien got to see his Auntie Lindsey which he LOVED, she's his favorite!

Day 27 - Saturday

Damien and I had a relaxing day at home today. I had a marathon of laundry to do and since I have been having a million braxton hicks contractions every day, I decided to listen to my body and actually rest for once and napped with him for the last 2 hours of his nap. I definitely needed it! Didn't have anything to take pics of today, but I did meet up with my Sister in law to pick up our fired ceramics pieces from Petroglyph. Turned out so cute, I love it :) I'm trying to decide if I want to make it a Christmas present for him or not...Not sure if I can wait that long to let him use it hehe

Day 26 - Friday

Friday was a fun day, we went to Bishops one last time in the late afternoon with Damien's "Auntie Linds" and wandered around, played on the train and shared a peanut butter cookie on a bench :) Then later that evening after dinner Daddy, Mommy and Damien went to "Trunk-or-Treat" at our friend's church. Marissa and Kevin's son, Dylan, is Damien's best bud forever. They play pretty well together and are so cute to watch! We love them! Thanks for inviting us again.

Day 25 - Thursday

I'm so behind. I suck at this haha. I'm definitely playing catch up tonight, I've been so exhausted by the time Damien is in bed that I forget!

Damien is really into coloring now, he begs me all day every day to color and while I love it I have to sit with him because he likes to color on the walls...the floor...himself haha So I have to save it for times when I don't have other things to get done. He will sit and color for upwards of an hour if I let him, its so cute :) He's also learning his colors, everytime he picks up a crayon I tell him what color it is and so far he's learned blue and green...its so cute! "Bew!!" "Geeeen!"

Day 24

Tonight I went out for a few hours without the kiddo with my Sister in Law Candice. We went to a ceramics studio in Roseville called Petroglyph. Its such an awesome place and we've dubbed it out "Peace Place". It was unbelievably relaxing to go and paint, it was quiet in there, music was playing, we could have a nice conversation. This is one thing her and I share a love for, arts and crafts type stuff, so its fun to go that kind of thing with her :) Thanks for going with me Sis!

I made Damien a dinner plate tonight. This is before its fired, the colors are a little differentthan they are in the picture but its the general idea haha

Day 23

Today we set up Baby #2's crib. Since we live in a two bedroom condo, we will have him in our room until May when our lease is up and we move elsewhere. Damien JUST moved into his own room about 3 months ago anyways, so we're used to having an extra roomie :) (and I love sleeping with my baby...seriously there is nothing better than sweet baby breathe in the morning!) Well i went to take a picture of the crib set up and Damien was behind me going "Cheese! Cheese!" so we had a mini photo shoot...

Day 22: 27 weeks!

We had a busy day today, lots of errands and an hour and a half long trip to the park alone with Damien. I am definitely feeling all that running around!

And I've graduated into my husbands basketball shorts... mine just weren't cutting it anymore haha

Day 21

We had fun with his lego set yesterday :) And yes I forgot to post, AGAIN. I'm really trying to not screw this up but its hard haha

Saturday, October 23, 2010

Day 20

We have one spoiled kid... seriously. Daddy can't resist buying him cool stuff when we see it while we're out so this is his newest toy! Its a lego table with a top that goes over the lego part to make a regular table. He played with it for an hour when we got home... its a hit.

And then we put the top on and he sat there like a big boy and fed himself his ENTIRE plate of food. Anyone who knows him well knows this is a huge deal haha, my kid eats like a bird. We may have figured him out, who would have thought all we needed to do was let him be a little more independant?

Day 19

First rainy day of Fall, which is awesome, but at the same time that rain decided to start right as we walked up to the playground in our complex, so not so awesome haha. We stayed and played in the sprinkles until the rain started bugging him and then we walked back home! It was so nice to be bundled up for once instead of sweating our hineys off!

And yes he's eating bark.....
